Croque-Monsieur

A staple in French menus, bite into the rich flavor of a local favorite!For Gourmet Phase

2 meat + 2 starch + 1 dairy
Ingredients for 1 person/s :

  • 2 slices (1 oz. each) whole wheat bread
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon honey (optional)
  • 1 oz. (30 g) regular lean ham
  • 1 oz. (30 g) shredded Muenster cheese
  • ¼ cup Béchamel sauce (see recipe)

Directions:
  • Spread the mustard and honey on each slice of bread.
  • Place the ham and cheese on one slice of bread and top with the other slice of bread to make a sandwich.
  • Meanwhile, in a bowl, dip the sandwich in Béchamel sauce until well-coated.
  • Cook the sandwich in a nonstick pan over medium-high heat, about 3 minutes each side or until the sandwich is golden brown.
